On May 29, 2009- Microsoft Corporation officially launched the new version of MSN Search- a search engine now known as Bing.

BingFor those who haven’t understand what search engine is, it’s a software program that helps users find information stored on a personal computer or a network of computers, such as the intranet or Internet. It basically retrieves a list of World Wide Web (WWW) sites or websites, personal computer files, documents, either by scanning the content stored on the computers or computer networks being searched or by analyzing an index of stored data on a certain servers. Like what you recently did, the text your eyes are currently reading is being displayed to you dug by a digital medium commonly known as a Search Engine.

Microsoft launched the MSN in 1995 –the time Windows 95 Operating System was also released- MSN had undergone several developments based on subscription base, or generally market shares. MSN actually trailed American Online (AOL) by a wide margin after one year of its operation but it surpassed the Prodigy, another online service launched in 1990. Other development includes the redesign of the site to MSN 8, which featured stronger controls so that parents can protect their children from undesirable websites and e-mail solicitations – spam, hoax, and phishing e-mail.

After 14 years of development, would it be possible that Bing surpass Google and Yahoo!? If we will look at the current search engines ranking, well it might surpass Yahoo! But for me, to surpass Google is another story. Who knows? Well let’s just find out soon…
