The program started with a speech from the CIT-ECE Department Head – Engr. Susana A. Tan. Highlighted during her speech includes the Mock Board Examination for graduating students, in which she encourages students to perform well during the Mock Board Exam – which is a simulated examination designed to develop or test students’ capability during the actual Board Examination given by the Professional Regulatory Commission or PRC. She also shared the goal of CIT towards the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities – Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) Level II Accreditation by 2012. CIT is currently having a PACUCOA Level I Accreditation. She also mentioned the revision of ECE curriculum in which according to her, students enrolled in the new curriculum will graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Electronics Engineering – not the usual Electronics and Communications Engineering.
The CIT-ECE Faculty and Staff had been introduced also during the event. They are Engr. Susana A. Tan, Engr. Joselito P. Valdezamo, Engr. Romeo Lepiten, Engr. Leopoldo Din Jr., Engr. Lotis Patunog, Engr. Allan C. Pangan, Engr. Analou T. Villanueva, Engr. Wilbert Arañez, Engr. Junjun Obeso, Engr. Joannes Paulus V. Jumadla, Engr. Renan Fernandez, Engr. Ranolfo Boholst Jr., Mr. Ilderramo Kwong, and Mr. Rizaldo Baraga.
There was also students’ consultation wherein students have given a chance to ask and raise their concerns to the CIT-ECE staff. Among those concerns raised includes:
1. Why some laboratory manuals were duplicated in Xerox copy?
2. Is there a possible upgrade of the Laboratory PC’s?
3. Why Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) was reverted back to Electronics Engineering?
To settle up these concerns, Engr. Tan explained to the students that laboratory manuals were duplicated in Xerox copy as temporary for the first semester of this school year due to the fact that they’re running out of time to encode all the manuals. She also noted that there has been already a plan to upgrade PC units for the laboratories, and she asked SSG representatives to push through this concern to CIT management as quoted: “SSG representative can persuade CIT management to take actions on students’ concerns”. Regarding the new curriculum, Engr. Tan said that the CIT-ECE curriculum was revised as per CHED Memorandum- the Memo 24, Series of 2008. She also shared the advantages of the new curriculum over the old curriculum. According to her, the new curriculum has more track elective choices like: Communications, Micro-Electronics, Power Electronics, Bio-Tech/Bio-Medical Electronics, Instrumentation and Control, and Information and Computing Technologies.
The event was also filled with great fun and games from different year levels.
