On my first review of Windows 7, I mentioned or suggested there not to climb on the bandwagon or as much as possible- avoid going to torrent sites just to grab a copy of Windows 7 RC or Windows 7 RTM.
This is to avoid downloading a modified ISO image of the installer, which actually happened most on free software downloads. The result- you are being compromised with the performance of your PC.
Julien Manici, a programmer and software developer, dropped a comment on my Facebook wall about his file hash checker.

He said that it’s still possible to download Windows 7 RTM from “various” sources. Just verify the ISO file (Windows 7 Installer) that it has been untouched and is free from malware. You can use his File Has Checker 1.1 in verifying the ISO file. If the installer is clean, simply install Windows 7 and use it for 120 days (with slmgr /rearm command) before you purchase the full license. It’s great, right?
So how does this File Hash Checker works? Well, you can use this tool to compute Windows 7 MD5 or the MD5 and SHA1 hash of any file. This is to make sure the ISO of the installer -Windows 7 for example- is not corrupted before using it. This application is Windows Presentation Foundation (or WPF) based and uses a new feature of Windows 7 to display a progress bar in the taskbar. This File Hash Checker is functional on Windows 7, or in Windows XP or Vista with a .net Framework 3.5. So, if you are looking for a copy of Windows 7 RC or RTM installer- you can Google and download the ISO image of the Windows 7 installation files. Then check it with the File Hash Checker 1.1 if it still “untouched” or unmodified.
