Some users were get disappointed though, since Greasemonkey was still not supported on Google Chrome. Not until yesterday when Aaron Boodman, announced in The Chromium Blog that Google Chrome 4 is now natively supports Greasemonkey user scripts!
Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension written by Aaron Boodman in 2004 that allows developers to customize web pages using simple JavaScript. He said:
Ever since the beginning of the Chromium project, friends and coworkers have been asking me to add support for user scripts in Google Chrome. I’m happy to report that as of the last Google Chrome release, you can install any user script with a single click…In fact, there’s over 40,000 scripts on userscripts.org alone.
So this means that over 40,000 scripts that are being enjoyed by Firefox users can also be installed on Google Chrome 4 and future versions. I personally say that this is a great move for Google, since some of the Firefox users are using Greasemonkey scripts and Chrome users will not be compromised with the Greasemonkey support anymore.
One of the scripts I’ve installed on my Firefox browser is the Facebook Friends Checker. And now, I can also install the script on Google Chrome. [via]
