The Pre-writing Challenge is over; Let’s talk about it

You might have heard about the pre-writing challenge, right? If not, well- I’ll just make a short recap here.
Last month, I was stumbled to Dave Doolin’s Website in a Weekend, a blog about WordPress tips and tricks, and some articles about blogging. Since then, I regularly visit that blog because of its very informative contents. Another avid reader and writer, Carlos Velez, happened to guest post in WIAW in which he talked about the benefits of pre-writing. There he initiated the pre-writing challenge.

The challenge officially started February 19 and after a month-long of buffering contents, the pre-writing challenge is finally over. And it’s time for me to share my personal experience with the challenge.

What can I say about the PWC is that, it’s a mixed of fun, excitement, and pressure. Everyone was committed to draft articles every week, hit the commitment, and again draft for another week despite of the regular postings on our blog. It was amazing actually, that even the Pro-Blogger (Darren Rowse) sent a message to the participants of PWC. If you missed that video, read my blog- Darren Rowse on Pre-writing Challenge.

How did I manage to build a stash of articles?

I am not actually full-time in blogging. I’m regularly working eight hours a day for five days in a week. Sometimes I really feel that I’m fully stressed from work, but the good things are- I love my job and I enjoy doing it. I’ve been doing far from this blogging endeavor, and I’ve already realized why I’m doing this. That’s the very important thing here, setting a goal. Because of that goal, I managed to regularly maintain my blog and build a stash of articles for the PWC. What’s the secret? Very simple… it’s time management. I normally spend in front of my PC four to six hours after work. I think that’s enough for a part-time blogger. If you have any suggestions for that, I’ll be glad if you are going to share it.

What other ultimate goals I achieved from the pre-writing challenge?

The primary goal of the PWC is to build articles which can be published in a series of weeks, with me just doing other things that I want to do once the challenge is over. This is not the only thing I achieved though; I was also able to participate in building a small community- which I’m confident will go far beyond what I was expecting. To be honest, most of the participants of the PWC are actually writers- a very important thing that I kept in mind before joining. But because of my guts and confidence that I can do it, well… this is it! I joined and hit the goals. If you are reading this and have a second thought that you can’t do this because you are also not a writer, head over to the pro-blogger.net where Mark Hayward’s guest post was just published. You need to read that very inspiring post.

I actually have lots of ideas to share, but I will not make this post long. Let’s just talk about it on the comment section.
