I’m not seeing Olive brands on local shelves just yet, but yes – Olive Telecom is here in the Philippines.
Olive Telecom is headquartered in India and has expanded the business to partner over 28 carriers in 23 other countries (including the Philippines) since its inception in 2006. Known for making mobile phones, tablets, netbooks, and wireless peripherals — Olive Telecom invested its own Research and Development facilities in India and China. Having its own design houses basically differs the company from other players (like Cherry Mobile, MyPhone, and among other China-made brands) which proliferate the local market today. Yet, its products are being manufactured by known OEM’s like Haier, Foxconn, and Flextronics.
Olive Telecom has a wide range of product portfolio — WCDMA, CDMA, GSM and EV-DO mobile handsets, mobile computing devices, advanced data modems and devices for wireless broadband — in which the company has sold to date over 20 million devices worldwide. Its website reveals the company’s two-sharp go-to-market strategy that could win in the competition and that includes:
- selling to telecom operators, direct sales of the customized products
- selling to consumers under the Olive brand, through distribution network
Most of us are excited to see how Olive Telecom will position its business here in the Philippines, but the company eyes being listed in the top 5 slot in 3 years time. Of course it’s not just the likes of Cherry Mobile and MyPhone brands which Olive will contest; there are still the juggernauts in the road like Nokia and Samsung. [via]
