iPhone users who are stuck on modem firmware (aka baseband) 4.11.08 get to breathe a sigh of relief, at least, for yet another promise from the maker of Gevey SIM as it has confirmed this time that they are working on a new SIM interposer capable of unlocking the said baseband.

This Gevey Ultra SIM can only Unlock Basebands 1.59.00, 2.10.04, 3.10.01, and 4.10.01
The new Gevey SIM will work on iPhone 4 with support for iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1, and the same unlock solution for iPhone 4S baseband 4.11.08 on iOS 5.0 is also in the works.
“For everyone that asked about modem firmware 4.11.08. YES we are working on it. We are also working on iPhone 4S unlock.” ApplenBerry said on its Facebook page.
ApplenBerry didn’t specifically mention if modem firmware version 1.0.14 that comes with iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4S is supported. So just an advice, it’s best to stay on iOS 5.0 for the meantime and not to further update your firmware to iOS 5.0.1 or when Apple releases either iOS 5.0.2 or iOS 5.1. This is also to increase your chance of getting a software-based unlock once the iPhone Dev Team or the Chronic Dev Team make it available anytime soon.
ApplenBerry’s announcement may sound a good news really that those “expensive iPod Touch” devices will finally get their cellular phone functionality back. Though still not clear when exactly such new Gevey SIM will hit ApplenBerry online store, several rumors suggest it would be some time in February. Not really that long to wait, right? Anyway, we’ll try to find out so make sure to subscribe on this blog for updates. [via]
