Toshiba showcased once again at this year’s CES the company’s tablet first known to us as Toshiba AT200. First spotted in last year’s IFA event in Berlin, the AT200 will be out in the US as the Toshiba Excite X10 with an expected release date some time in late February or early March this year. This actually has been released in Japan as Regza AT7000, but I’m crossing my fingers Toshiba Philippines will launch it locally as Excite X10 as well.

The Toshiba Excite X10 sports the same 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor known to its previous pseudonym, and is packed with 1GB RAM, 5MP rear camera, Wi-Fi module, and features “micro-interfaces” for HDMI, USB, and SD devices — making it possible for Toshiba to achieve a very thin form-factor. In fact, just at 7.7mm thin, the Toshiba Excite X10 is holding the title as the world’s thinnest tablet to date. This slate will carry Android Honeycomb OS at launch and is upgradeable to Android Ice Cream Sandwich soon. And as the name suggests, Excite X10 will show off a 10.1-inch capacitive HD display at exact resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, just the same native resolution we see in most 15.4-inch laptop screens today.

The Toshiba Excite X10 will retail in the US starting at $529.99 for the 16GB version which is a little bit higher than the base model of iPad 2. Though the latter is not really the main contender for this tablet, I personally won’t be surprised if Apple slammed the Excite 10 with iPad 3 or even Samsung with its Transformer Prime as far as pricing is concerned. But to be fair, Toshiba Excite really got a decent hardware specs, so to speak I won’t be giving my final verdict just yet.

hi there! just a quick Q: do you have any updates on the ASUS Transformer Prime? I’ve been waiting for its release, supposedly last December 2010. Thanks!

Yes… the story is coming…. But if you’ve been waiting for the first batch of Transformer Prime, I suggest you hold back. ASUS updated it with a new model, with higher resolution display and a revamped design…
