Cherry Mobile Flare 2X Unboxing & Quick Review

The Cherry Mobile Flare 2X was made available in the country recently with little fanfare, along with two other handsets. Lots of people ask what’s with it that CM Flare 2.0 (the successor to the original CM Flare) doesn’t have? Why the need for Flare 2X? So I embarked on a short journey of unboxing the newest CM Flare handset a bit, after purchasing this in local store last week.

The Cherry Mobile Flare 2X in a Box!

From its handsome grayish dark-blue shaded box container, I unboxed it to reveal a handset with an unmistakably distinct design. First impression is heightened by its dark and cool and smart looks, and one’s curiosity is further elated by the glare on the handset’s shell / casing.  It’s a shiny phone with a distinct fingerprint plus smudge magnet. Early at this stage, I’m kind of glad I made the right choice of buying this smartphone.

Now, we take the device out of the box for a closer look and better appraisal of its overall design. Well, at this point, I’d say it’s definitely a good buy, made in good taste. The shell glare is certainly there and makes it a nice and alluring piece of gadget to hold.

One of the things people look at in a phone–next to the screen display–after lifting it out of its box, is undoubtedly the back side of the handset. And doing so, the back side of the handset is incidentally given attention as well. Cherry Mobile Flare 2X has a plain backside with curve edges. There’s the printed “Cherry Mobile” brand name at the bottom and your attention is swiftly taken to the autofocus shooter, a high-res 8MP camera with a single-LED flash each owner is sure to enjoy with on low-light conditions.  The next tendency of any excited Cherry Mobile Flare 2X owner is to hold out the gadget with a hand and aim the lens at himself in a mock selfie pose, eh? More of the pics samples though in a separate full review.

Talking about the camera, the 4-inch WVGA display, and Android Jelly Bean UI in front is among things that set the Cherry Mobile Flare 2X from the original Flare 1.0 version.  The 8MP cam is also definitely a marked improvement over the one in Flare 2.0. And based on the specs sheet, needless to say, the larger 1GB RAM is the reason why Cherry Mobile enthusiasts would opt to the 2X rather than the 2.0 version.

Now, let’s see what’s actually inside the handset by opening the back shell. Lifting the back cover, the removable Li-Ion 1,500 mAh battery is the most obvious piece, and somewhere in all the intricate parts snugly fitted there include the Snapdragon MSM8225Q  chipset housing the 1.2GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A5 CPU and the Adreno 203 graphics processor, the 4 GB internal storage which is expandable via microSD card slot, and all the other parts similar to what CM Flare 2.0 has (except for the 1GB RAM).

Cherry Mobile Flare 2X Package

The Cherry Mobile Flare 2X package comes with the essential accessories for a more convenient handset use. That includes the charger and USB cable, a pair of headset, and user manual. Not really that much, but enough for a Php 4,499 price tag, right? Full review of this handset coming very soon, so just stay tuned.
