Free Mobile Internet for Smart, Talk ‘N Text and Sun Prepaid Users for 2 Months!

In a very breaking news, Business Tycoon and Chairman of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) Manuel V. Pangilinan, also commonly known as MVP, made a big announcement today about the future of mobile internet in the Philippines for Smart, Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular prepaid subscribers.

MVP built a whole lot of speculations when he sent a tweet last Wednesday, September 24, 2014 that he’ll be making a “very important announcement” at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel scheduled 11 am today.

Many speculated that he might be announcing his intent to join politics and run for President in the 2016 National Elections, or that Smart will be the sole carrier of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. But none of these are true, well at least for now, as MVP’s announcement was something none of us expected.

Starting today, prepaid subscribers of Smart, Talk ‘N Text and Sun Cellular can now enjoy free mobile internet services. Yes, you’ve read it right, FREE. And anyone can avail of this special promo, as long as you’re a prepaid subscriber of the said networks, and you have at least one peso on your account or you’re currently subscribed to any load bucket or promo. All you have to do is to text FREE and send it to 9999 to avail of the promo.

“We’re inaugurating offer to make Mobile Internet services available for free to all prepaid subs of Smart, TNT and Sun,” MVP said. “Our network is ready to handle this program — for our 66 million subscribers,” he added.

But of course, Smart and Sun’s Internet For All campaign does come with a catch. The free mobile internet service comes with a cap of initially up to 30MB daily, and is subject to the promo’s terms and fair use policy. As much as the registration is free, you have to register on a daily basis.

The free internet promo covers Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as Web Browsing, Music Streaming exclusively via Spinnr, E-mails and the use of Navigation apps like Waze.

On the other hand, YouTube streaming and downloading, the use of chat and VoIP apps like FaceTime, Viber, WeChat are not covered.

One may think that 30 MB is relatively small, but here’s what you can do with it:

  • 20 social media posts with photo
  • 50 web pages loads
  • 20 plain emails
  • 15 minutes of music streaming

With this, Smart is definitely living up to it’s slogan #LiveMore. The promo will run for 2 months, up to November 30, 2014.
