The Apple Watch, an Innovation or just Another Overly Priced Smartwatch?

Alongside with the announcement of the new Apple iPhone 6 and the new iPhone 6 Plus is a new device under Apple’s new category of products—a smart watch. Everyone was looking forward for the Cupertino tech giant’s take on this wearable technology trend that is starting to take the world by storm, and indeed, Apple did not fail to impress.

Power Banks aren’t just for Cellphones and Tablets, but for Laptops, too!

Looking for Power Banks, aka, external batteries for your laptops? Here’s what you need to know about it and how to compute number of charges.

Laptops give us computing mobility that most tablets can’t provide. Although there’s a whole lot of tablet models out there that seems to be capable of replacing laptops to cater for our daily needs, as a blogger, I could personally say that working with a laptop is still a whole lot easier compared to with a touchscreen slate–even with a wireless keyboard accessory. The experience is just different.

Bert Work mode

One common nook for those who work on their laptops outside of their home or office are coffee shops and malls. Laptops even allows us to bring work while we’re on vacation, just like the photo above during my recent quick Bohol getaway. A downside of working with a laptop (well, portable devices in general) is that you’d have to be near an outlet after a couple of hours of using it, as you’re running on batteries after all. Although most cafés have a number of outlets available for customers inside their store, some just don’t have such. A bitter reality is that there are instances which I’m sure a lot can relate to, the coffee shop has outlets but everyone inside the store seems to have conveniently plugged in their devices and there’s not an outlet left for you.

Apple Retires the iPad 2 for the 4th Gen iPad with Retina Display; Introduces a Cheaper 8 GB iPhone 5C Variant

In Apple news, the Cupertino based tech giant decided to make small changes on their device line up. When it comes to iPads and iPhones, Apple has been keeping a previous model available as an alternative to their current flagship device.

The second generation iPad was originally introduced back in March of 2011, and it has been available since then even after the introduction of the iPad Air, the fifth generation full sized iPad. But that is only until yesterday, as Apple decided to retire the three year old model in favor of the 4th generation iPad with Retina.

Sony in New Zealand turned to Auckland-based ad agency DraftFCB, who suggested the marketing gimmick, proving that the W series Sports Walkman’s waterproof feature is very much a real deal. The “Walkman in a Bottle” is being sold in New Zealand from vending machines in public places like gyms.

Basic Energy Saving Tips for your Smarphone, Are You Doing This?

Certainly you’d need to give your gadgets – or your smartphone – tender, loving care, won’t you? Well for one thing it is expensive when you purchased it (unless of course shelling out bucks isn’t much of a concern for you?); second it is an important piece of technology that lets you communicate in various ways across the globe, third it helps maintain its pristine condition even after years of use and you can resell it for 60% of the original price. You will, in effect, may break even by 30% or 40% of your original budget in purchasing the product.

BattTips_Android_sf

But that’s not the only reason why you need to take care of your smartphone’s battery and employ the best energy savings tips. Actually it’s the “now” aspect that you need to think about when you consider prolonging the battery life of your smartphone. It’s because of the premise that since you’re out most of the time you might not be able to find a place where you can recharge your batteries and that’s going to be a problem if the next call you’re expecting is of some sort of importance. So here are five ways to make your cell phone battery last longer.

Cherry Mobile G1 Watch Phone

Experts say that in the future we will be wearing these electronic gadgets and 40 years past that future we will incorporate these gadgets in our biology, making us bionic humans. But for now I think we can settle for wearable watch phones, especially the latest one from Cherry Mobile dubbed as G1. Known for offering affordable handsets, this G1 Watch Phone from Cherry Mobile is also very cheap and is priced at Php2,599 only. Forget about accessing the Android Play Store or iTunes stores because the operating system (OS) of this device is not upgradable. However, it does have all the basics that you’d look for in a smartphone, including features such as sending SMS, making outgoing and receiving incoming calls, playing music and videos, storing files, taking photos and videos, and leveraging on Bluetooth and GPRS connectivity.

Cherry Mobile G1 Watch Phone

Hardware

Essentially, the Cherry Mobile G1 watch phone looks a lot like those entry level phones produced by LG, Samsung and Nokia few years back with their tiny QUERTY keypads, but the watch phone also has features reminiscent of Casio’s G-Shock technology and of course the rubber strap and chrome buckle. So if you’ve watched most of the James Bond films where it allowed him to communicate with his colleagues using his watch, make stuff explode or cut through metal with the ridiculously high-tech built-in thermal laser, then you’ll know what I mean when I say “it feels a lot like that.” Well, except for the laser and blowing stuff up because as far as I know the lithium-ion battery’s maximum explosion effect is that of a fire cracker and its power can’t supply enough bolts of electricity to any lasers that cuts through steel. The G1 also sports a dual sim function, 1.44″ TFT Touch LCD w/ Slider Key+D-Pad and an FM Radio.

Samsung GamePad Bundled with Galaxy Tab 3

In the ensuing competition that gadget makers face every day, Samsung may have gained a foothold in the electronics market yet again; as rumors recently gone viral with their offer of a bundled product which includes the Galaxy Tab 3 and their in-house designed GamePad. Just to be clear both the GamePad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 have been around for quite some time now; however, this is the first time that they’re being offered in a bundled promo.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Game Edition

This caused some of us to speculate whether or not Samsung will give the Tab 3 a special upgrade since this bundle is said to be game oriented and according to its specifications it only has a Dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, which may not be enough for high-end gaming.

CyanogenMod first Android Phone, Oppo N1, gets Approval from Google

Open source operating system maker and distributor CyanogenMod has recently strike a deal with internet giant – Google – which led to the development of the Oppo N1 Android-based smartphone. The new phone will be shipped to major retailers in the United States today, December 24, 2013; an early Christmas gift if you can get your hands on it for $599 only. It will also be available on their official website, the Oppo Online Store. This is their first smartphone that works with Google’s Android operating system which is the 4.4.2 KitKat as the Oppo R819 and the Find 5 had the 4.2 version Jelly Bean OS.

CyanogenMod Oppo N1 Smartphone

Much like any other third party vendors, CyanogenMod appealed for Google’s approval before launching their latest product and since Google was pleased, they got it almost immediately after research and development. Unlike the standard version of CyanogenMod where the user must first install the custom ROM and then the Google Apps suite, the new Oppo N1 will run the Google Apps suite out of the box.

Globe Drops iPhone 5S and 5C Prices

Globe Telecom has decreased the prices of its new iPhone offerings with customized postpaid plans, specifically the iPhone 5C and 5S. Some would opine this could lead to massive purchases of the much coveted devices, especially this Christmas season, or in time when the entire country is still recovering from the recent calamities which struck the central Philippines and sales of the handsets aren’t that impressive just yet since launch.

Globe iPhone 5C, 5S

The new offerings through Globe’s MySuperPlan includes the iPhone 5C, in which the 16GB base version now sells at only P1,349 per month under Plan 499. This includes a cashout of P850 per month within a 2-year contract. The Plan 499 postpaid package includes a 300MB LTE surfing plus free calls and SMS texts. The 16GB base version of the iPhone 5S on the other hand now sells for only P1,799 monthly under Plan 999. That already includes a cashout of P800 per month within a 2-year contract. This postpaid package offers buyers unlimited LTE internet surfing plus free texts and calls.

Cherry Mobile Flare 2X Unboxing & Quick Review

The Cherry Mobile Flare 2X was made available in the country recently with little fanfare, along with two other handsets. Lots of people ask what’s with it that CM Flare 2.0 (the successor to the original CM Flare) doesn’t have? Why the need for Flare 2X? So I embarked on a short journey of unboxing the newest CM Flare handset a bit, after purchasing this in local store last week.

The Cherry Mobile Flare 2X in a Box!

From its handsome grayish dark-blue shaded box container, I unboxed it to reveal a handset with an unmistakably distinct design. First impression is heightened by its dark and cool and smart looks, and one’s curiosity is further elated by the glare on the handset’s shell / casing.  It’s a shiny phone with a distinct fingerprint plus smudge magnet. Early at this stage, I’m kind of glad I made the right choice of buying this smartphone.

iPhone 5S Teardown 1

After unlocking the pentalobular screws that secure the phone shell into place—and lifting off the front shell cover—a cable is noticeable at the bottom. It attaches the Touch ID sensor found in the home button to the Lighting receptacle or port assembly. This cable is among the crucial parts of what’s inside the iPhone 5S and should be handled with care.

Nokia Lumia 610, Most Affordable Yet Perfect Windows Phone for Entry Level Users

I love Windows Phone 7, period. More that I’m impressed with the latest “Mango” build of the OS (v7.5) that powers three WP handsets from Nokia – the Lumia 800, the Lumia 710, and Lumia 610 – all of which are already available here in the Philippines.

The number of apps available at the Windows Phone Marketplace is really a serious concern for many, but yes – I believe Microsoft have it on its arsenal what are really needed to build a wider community of developers. Just one thing is for sure the Redmond-based software giant (together with Nokia) must have in mind to stay competitive in the market, and that is pushing more compelling and quality apps at the Marketplace, very, very FAST!

No More Windows Phones from LG, Just Android

LG Electronics is one among the early adapters of the Windows Phone OS back in 2010 (together with HTC, Dell, and Samsung) that really pushed devices out in the market, but it seems like the company will make a fundamental change on its smartphone business as it plans to focus on Google’s Android OS.

The decision was hinted during the company’s earnings conference session last week, citing an LG executive saying “that the company is planning to focus on smartphones running on Google’s Android mobile operating system” and it “is taking a step back from Windows phones”.

Sony to Launch Xperia S in Cebu Tomorrow

It’s official! Sony will launch its new Xperia smartphones at the Radisson Blu hotel tomorrow. The company had already showcased these devices in Manila last week so we already have an idea what exactly to expect.

The star of the show would be Sony’s new flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia S, which will debut in the city through a special exhibition at the Cyberzone starting tomorrow until May 2nd. This is open for public viewing so you guys will be able to experience this device at launch. In any case you missed the first time I gave attention to this handset, go check out my previous post via this link. Interestingly, the Sony Xperia S got an official SRP of Php 27,990 – just a fair price for a flagship Android handset from the UK-based phone maker.
