YouTube Turns 9 Today, Watch the First 5 Videos ever Uploaded on the Popular Video Sharing Site

Officially speaking, Youtube was founded on February 14, 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim — early employees of PayPal. According to Karim, the concept was inspired by two incidents. First was the whole Janet Jackson 2004 Superbowl scandal, when the American recording artist and actress had a wardrobe malfunction, exposing her breasts. The second incident was also back in the same year, when a Tsunami caused by the Indian Ocean Earthquake mainly struck Sumatra, Indonesia. Karim said that videos related to these incidents were hard to find online back then, thus the idea of putting up a video sharing site of their own, YouTube.

Today marks the 9th birthday of the first ever video uploaded on the popular video sharing site. The video was uploaded exactly last 8:27 pm of April 23, 2005. Watch the video, as well as the other first four videos uploaded on Youtube.
