Five days from now, The New iPad will start selling in the US as well in other countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands.
Here in the Philippines, the official release hasn’t been announced just yet; but we can speculate when it will reach our shores and how much would it cost by looking back to Apple’s launching strategy of its earlier generation slates.
First, let’s talk about the price. When Apple launched the iPad 2 last year, it got a price tag for each model just the same with every variant of the first-generation iPad – that is Php 23,990, Php 28,990, and Php 33,990 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB Wi-Fi only models, respectively. iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 3G features also followed the same price schedule as the first-gen iPad – that is Php 30,990, Php 35,990, and Php 40,990 for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models, respectively.
It’s interesting to note that despite of the constant fluctuations of the exchange rates and possible addition of Custom charges, Apple seemed to find not that hard to offer the iPad 2 in the Philippines at the same price of the first-gen iPad.
Just recently, Apple announced its 3rd generation iPad, simply called as The New iPad – and still with the same US price tag for every variant of iPad 2 or the first-gen iPad. And with Apple’s move to drop prices of all iPad 2 models following the announcement, which is as much as Php 6000 here in the Philippines, I’m inclined to believe The New iPad prices at launch will remain the same as its older brothers.
The New iPad Philippine Prices (Guesstimate)
16GB WiFi – Php 23, 990
32GB WiFi – Php 28, 990
64GB WiFi – Php 33, 990
16GB WiFi + 4G – Php 30, 990
32GB WiFi + 4G – Php 35, 990
64GB WiFi + 4G – Php 40, 990
The official release date of The New iPad in the country may be hard to speculate, but based on last year’s launch of the iPad 2 (which is over a month after the US launch) – I believe that won’ take any longer and such Apple tablet will land in the Philippines sometime in the 3rd or 4th week of April.
