We here at CebuTechBlogger.com loves new product releases. And just last night, we were invited by Gionee for the unveiling of their latest flagship phone, the Elife E7. The event took place at the Mandarin Plaza Hotel, headed by Gionee Philippines Mobile head Ms. Katrin Salanga-Gregorio and Gionee’s Brand Ambassadress, former Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Catch the full specs, details, photos and a quick hands-on video right after the break!
The Gionee Elife E7 got its official global unveiling during the 2014 Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain just a month ago. And yesterday, the popular Chinese mobile brand proudly presented their latest flagship device to the Visayas market to dealers and members of the media, making everyone present in the said event the first people to see and experience the Elife E7 smartphone, at least in the country. A separate public event will be held for our friends in Manila come March 30 at the Mall of Asia Activity grounds.
Slotted at the high-end category of smartphones, “The Elife E7 is a massive upgrade from the Elife E6” according to Gionee Philippines’ mobile head, Ms. Katryn Salanga-Gregorio.
Flaunting an eye catching glossy finish on a unibody design, the Gionee Elife E7 comes in 7 color options. Upfront is where the 5.5 inch full HD touch display sits, with just thin bezels on the side. On hand, the device feels solid and light, although the polycarbonate shell makes the device feels ‘plasticky’. Imagine holding a lighter and slightly bigger Nokia Lumia 1020.
While the Gionee Elife E7 is beautiful on the outside, it also comes with stunning specs on the inside. Under the hood is where you’ll find a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM. If you think 2 GB of RAM isn’t enough, Gionee was actually clever enough to make a variant with a bigger 3 GB of RAM and a 32 GB worth of internal storage.
The imaging department is where the Elife E7’s main feature is at, according to Gionee. Marketed as “Made for Shooting”, the Elife E7 comes with a F2.2 Aperture 16 megapixel AF main camera with LED flash and an 8 megapixel autofocus front facing camera for those inevitable selfies.
With the camera hardware and a one of a kind software, Gionee claims that the Elife E7 can take amazing photos better than any phone with a camera out in the market. Plus, Gionee also claims that the camera app on the Elife E7 is actually at par with features found on professional cameras.
Sadly, we don’t have sample photos yet. But, if the device can really live up to what Gionee claims, then it is safe to say that the Elife E7 can give the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S5, the Xperia Z2 and others a run for their money, at least in terms of the camera.
The Gionee Elife E7 runs on Android JellyBean 4.2, with their own custom UI called as Amigo 2.0 that sits on top of Android. Amigo, however, based on our initial quick hands-on of the device, isn’t really that much impressive like any other Android skins we know such as HTC Sense and Samsung TouchWiz.
The Gionee Elife E7 also has a LTE version which is currently unavailable, well, at least until next month. Gionee didn’t reveal the price point for the LTE version when we asked, unfortunately.
As for the pricing, a lot of people might say that the Gionee Elife E7 is rather expensive with a price tag starting at Php 24,500, but judging from the top-notch specs, features and the looks of the device, the price point is actually quite a bargain. Plus, as part of the device’s introduction, the Gionee Elife E7 comes with a free “Big Speaker”. Now that’s just cherry on top of it.
