I am not living in the US so I dug into details what is Topeka and why is it become the talk of the day.
Topeka is actually the capital city of Kansas where the web search giant is located. Bill Bunten the Mayor of Topeka Kansas announced in a formal proclamation last Monday that his city will be known as “Google”. Sound funny right?
This is because Bunten wanted Google to pick his city for the pilot project which he firmly believes that residents of Topeka will benefit from the faster internet connections – the Google Fiber Network. That means that for the month of March 2010, Topeka city will be known as Google, Kansas – The Capital City of Fiber Optics. Read this proclamation to learn more.
Google is Topeka an April Fool’s Prank
Among the many April Fool’s Prank of Google for 2010, I think this is the most interesting. Google announced at exactly 1AM Central Time of April 1st that the company name has officially changed to Topeka. This is in response to the previously changed of Topeka, Kansas to Google, Kansas.
So you believe this? Nope, this is just another Google April Fool. (LOL)
