When you are going to purchase DVD-ripping software, it’s always best to consider what other users are saying about a particular product.
I have here a review of one of the popular DVD rippers available on the web, this time from Wondershare – the iSkysoft DVD Ripper. But before you go through with the review, I suggest you also check my review of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum.

About iSkysoft DVD Ripper

iSkysoft DVD Ripper is a robust software capable of removing DVD restrictions and converting DVDs into other audio/video formats playable on portable devices like iPod, iPhone, MP3/MP4 players, or mobile phone. With this software, you can easily rip or copy DVDs to your hard drive, or convert it to several media formats such as WMV, AVI, MP4, MOV, MPEG, H.264/AVC, 3GP, MP3, AAC, and etc.

The UI and Functionalities (Version 2.3.5)

iSkysoft DVD Ripper has a very simple user interface, yet provides easy access to its functions. It only contains few menus, in which the common functions are already accessible the moment you hit the software. See the screenshot below.

From the File menu, user has the option to load DVD files from local folders, load DVD ROM, load ISO or IFO files, or parse DVD folder. I tried loading a DVD movie (Fear Island) from the optical drive. iSkysoft DVD Ripper automatically suggests default settings, but you can always modify all of the settings according to your preference.

Audio/Video Formats

The Edit menu allows the user to manage added DVD files- either to remove, clear, or rename the file. It also let users display or show chapters of a single DVD file. If you just want to rip part of the entire video, you can create a clip in which you can set the start and end time in few clicks. You can also edit the video by cropping the original video, applying some effects, or putting watermarks.

Processing Speed

iSkysoft DVD Ripper processing speed actually depends on the type of audio/video output formats and the length or size of the source file. See for example the one I tried to rip which was originally 1.51GB in size; it took more or less 1 hour to rip the entire movie and convert the DVD to XVid format.

Video Conversion

Although it took quite longer to finish the task, that is not always the case. iSkysoft DVD Ripper leverage NVIDIA CUDA technology offering improved video encoding/decoding performance, particularly when processing HD videos, for any computer running on CUDA-enabled GPU, ensuring significant performance gain on computers running multi-core processors by channeling the full power of the CPU. You can learn more about this technology here.

Price and Final Verdict

This software costs around $39.95 and works on Windows platforms (NT4, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, and Windows 7). With its great functionalities and robustness, I think the price worth it. Unlike any other software, iSkysoft DVD Ripper is clean of malwares. Before purchasing the full version of the software, I suggest you download a trial first so you can try out the features yourself.
