It may be inadvertent or deliberate, but the responses Sony — through its UK Facebook page — thrown to its fans are indicative enough that the latest Android flavour won’t be available to last year’s Xperia phones. UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, John Cooper, had been taking questions on the said Facebook page and specifically mentioned both SE Xperia Arc S and Xperia Mini Pro that it won’t be getting Android 4.1 or Jelly Bean update.
This announcement is a bit of turn off for Xperia fans, particularly those who own Sony’s flagship phone last year — the SE Xperia Arc S. And now that Sony spilled it has no plans for a Jelly Bean update for Xperia Arc S, it concretely suggests that neither of the 2011 SE Xperia phones will receive Jelly Bean.
On another note, Sony Mobile confirmed Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) should now be available for all Sony Xperia S. Jelly Bean update for Xperia S is imminent, however, Sony declined to comment regarding its availability. The Xperia S is Sony Mobile’s first smartphone in the Xperia lineup following its acquisition of Ericsson’s stake earlier this year. [via]
