Yes, you read it right. We’ve been longing to hear from the iPhone Dev Team their official updates on the workaround of the SHAtter exploit, which was first discovered by @pod2g.
And for the sake of those owning the new iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G devices, here’s good news for you.
The Dev Team was able to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPod Touch 4G using the SHAtter exploit. In fact, they posted a video demoing the latest Bootrom exploit to restore to a pre-jailbroken IPSW by PwnageTool.
In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below! It’s all working: customized Preferences to show battery percentage, Cydia, root shell…the works! – Dev Team said.
The Dev Team added that even though the PwnageTool was a useful first test of full iPod Touch 4G jailbreak using SHAtter, it’s overkill compared to other tools being developed. That means that we can expect another new tool which might be easier, but still utilizes the SHAtter exploit.
Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues! – the Dev Team added.
While the new PwnageTool goes on beta, the Dev Team didn’t give any specific date when exactly the jailbreaking tools for iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G running iOS 4.1 will be made available to the public. Surely, we’ll let you know. So just stay tuned! [via Dev Team]
