The first beta of Redsn0w 0.9.7, which will implement the “backup plan” for an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.2.1 has already been released by the iPhone Dev Team.
As noted yesterday, beta testers of Redsn0w 0.9.7b1 are only those Mac users who have the 4.2b3 IPSW (firmware) saved on their computer and those who were able to backup the 4.2b3 SHSH blobs on Cydia. The Dev Team said, the first beta will jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered, but is only limited to iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad users.
