The combined efforts of the iPhone Dev Team, the Chronic Dev Team, and other diverse yet prominent iOS hackers to form this year’s so-called iOS hacking “Dream Team” have finally released the first untethered jailbreak for A5-powered devices, specifically the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.

The new jailbreak tool is dubbed as GreenPois0n Absinthe and is also based on the Corona exploit used to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 untethered on A4 devices (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G, and iPad 1). The Corona untether has been extended to A5 devices, more specifically so iPhone 4S handsets running either iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1, and iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken in an untethered state as well. For iPad 2 users, all versions are supported (Wi-Fi only, GSM, and CDMA) but you should note that there’s no iOS 5.0 support and that you need to upgrade your firmware to iOS 5.0.1 at least. (more…)
