Take the use of social media for example. As most of us–if not all–are now on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Government agencies, NGOs, TV Stations and some celebrities use their own social media accounts as channels in spreading news, public announcements, advisories and even calls for help by those affected during calamities more effectively.

Some Twitter accounts that one should follow for reliable updates and advisories are PAGASA (@dost_pagasa), Project NOAH’s Mahar Lagmay (@nababaha), Red Cross Philippines (@philredcross) and NDRRMC (@NDRRMC_OpCen). Also, some communities and cities have their own Public Information Office twitter account like in Marikina City (@MarikinaPIO) and in Cebu City (@CebuCityPIO).
