Okay. I logged on to my Gmail account few hours ago to check for new messages.
A suspicious email caught my attention with a subject USAA Customer Notification. The name of the sender is Banking Services using the email address [email protected]. Without any doubts, I suspected the email as another phishing scam as I’m not USAA member. The message read:
Your account has been suspended for security reasons.
You are kindly advised to follow the instructions below:
The update form is attached to this email. Please download the attachment, open it, and follow the instructions on your screen.
The data submitted will be transmitted over an SSL encrypted connection (128 bit Secure Socket Layer)
The said “Form” attached is viewable through Google Docs, so out of curiosity- I opened the attachment. The “Form” looks like the screenshot below:
|USAA Phishing Email Form|
The said form need to be filled out in order to restore the suspended USAA Account. As you can see on the image above, it asks for sensitive personal information like Card Number, Card Verification Value, and ATM Pin which are said to be used for authentication purposes.
But wait, this is a very common phishing scam. If you happen to receive this email, don’t bother yourself. On the first place, USAA never ask for personal or account information such as debit or credit card information in an e-mail. So, beware!
